In August 2021, One in Christ Jesus International Ministries provided two leadership development workshops to 86 pastors in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Since then, monthly follow-ups with these pastoral leaders have continued. We look forward to furthering development with the original 86 and are currently slated to train 430 ministry leaders in total in the summer of 2022.
After ministering in Chicago for over twenty years, in 2020, we began engaging with the Cooke County Juvenile Justice System to bring a mentoring program based on Giftedness to the probation department. During this time, we have trained 25 mentors through St. Agatha’s Church to serve the North Lawndale community on the west side of Chicago.
As educators by profession, we have long-standing relationships with former students and mentees. We continue to foster these relationships while encouraging and equipping others in our community to do the same.
Nestled in the Horn of Africa, the landlocked country of Ethiopia is rich both in culture and religious history. Ethiopia is home to an estimated 119 million people. This largely agrarian society finds more than 80% of its population residing in rural areas.
At the Ethiopian Council of Gospel Believers’ Churches (ECGBC) invitation, in August 2021, One in Christ Jesus International Ministries provided two leadership development workshops in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This training engaged 86 pastors, over three days, from central and southern Ethiopia. The initial development effort in Ethiopia involved a foundational training entitled “Leadership 101” followed by a two-day workshop called “Developing the Next Generation of Leaders.”
Practical training never ends with a workshop’s conclusion. In this vein, we are conducting monthly follow-ups. Additionally, we are actively engaged in adding to these pastoral leaders’ toolboxes as they serve their local congregations.
The ECGBC has requested that One in Christ Jesus International Ministries become the leadership training arm of this national council of evangelical believers. For this reason, we will continue face-to-face development in the summer of 2022 with training scheduled in three different locations in Ethiopia: the capital city of Addis Ababa, followed by Jimma, and Bonga in the south. This summer, we are slated to provide the initial group of 86 pastors with a timely and detailed development workshop on “Leadership in Crisis.” We will also offer two additional seminars in southern Ethiopia and are currently slated to train 430 pastors and ministry leaders, in total, during this upcoming trip.
